My career journey:
I was born in Ukraine and received my Master’s Degree in Germany. I started my career in Hungary as an equity research analyst and was promoted to lead analyst for energy stocks. I joined Citi in 2015 as an AVP in Product Control and I now co-lead the Commodities Product Control and Re-engineering Teams.
My role:
The Product Control team monitors trades, trade patterns, and entire portfolios to assess the remits and risks being taken. We act as the primary conduit between the trading desk and risk management, accounting, auditing, and other financial functions.
How I got started:
I started at Citi in a role where I performed all line controller tasks which allowed me to learn the basics.
A day in the life:
My day-to-day job is very dynamic with lots of new and ad-hoc issues, in-depth analysis, communication with different stakeholders and dealing with team issues. I have numerous projects running in parallel, which aim to review controls, improve processes, innovate and digitalize our working tools. I really like the fact that I see that I can make an impact here.
What I enjoy most:
I feel challenged and I am never bored. I learn something new every day.
Skills Check:
You need to have strong technical skills and be able to identify risks. You should possess effective interpersonal and communications skills to be able to interact comfortably with the business and senior stakeholders.
Advice for others:
Try to stay close to the market beat and business. Be connected to trends in various departments such as risk, quantitative analysis, IT, institutional banking, and learn about various financial products.

Citi is a huge place with a lot of opportunities and great people. If you work hard, Citi can take you anywhere. I see many future career options within finance across different regions, not just Hungary. Citi is always changing and in the future there may be brand new roles and opportunities.
